Decider of the 3-match odi series between Australia and New Zealand. Australia won the toss and opt to bat. Matthew Hayden played the innings of his life as he hit 181 runs of 166 balls including 11 fours and 10 sixes. His knock helped Australia to post a mammoth 346 runs.

Chasing 347, NZ were reduced to 41/4 after 9 overs. From that situation NZ made an outstanding comeback to the match with the help of a 165-runs partnership between Craig McMillan and Brendon Mccullum. NZ won the match by just 1 wicket and with just 3 balls to spare. But it was an outstanding inning from Matthew Hayden in a losing cause.
