The reasons include weakness of India and strengths of New Zealand
- India’s opening pair
India’s openers (4 of them) Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal and Shubman Gill out of these 3 haven’t played in England till yet and KL Rahul had a miserable series last time he toured England but KL Rahul had a 100 in his last innings in England but he is not even in the contention for the first playing XI, so India’s opening pair is inexperienced.
But this is not that big a advantage because the pitch at Southampton (the ground where the match is gonna happen) supports spinners also maybe if they handle the pace battery of NZ early on maybe it could be easy after the initial overs.
- NZ coming early to England
This has nothing to do with the pitch but the fact that they get their Quarantine done before India comes to England because India departs on June 2 and NZ would have already completed their Quarantine and also they have game time plus when India is their Quarantine, NZ team would be doing their practice so they have their upper hand here.
- NZ Bowling lineup
Their bowlers could have had good experience with the dukes ball before the Indian bowlers get a go at it
Their bowling and India’s bowling is at the same pedestal but NZ bowling’s is so versatile
Trent Boult- Dangerous in Swinging conditions
Tim Southee- Has good stats vs India and the conditions will favour him
Neil Wagner- He is equally dangerous and if the pitch gets better he has his bouncers to back up and he can bowl long spells
Kyle Jamieson- Is 6 feet tall and can bounce to good effect against Indian batsman who struggled against him in the past
One point where NZ will be confident is their fielding, India drops to many catches now a days while NZ fielders have experience in swinging conditions plus they have great hands like Williamson, Taylor, Latham and Boult
India also has good fielders but Kohli has dropped like 14 catches since the start of 2020 but Rahane is dependable but India’s bowlers are gonna let down in the field because I feel NZ’s bowlers do equally good fielding like their batsman. Slip cordon is gonna be worry for India.
I couldn’t find any 5th reason but these are the 4 reasons why NZ has a upper hand (not a significant one)
But hope India wins the cup with a good fight given by NZ
